Plays, records and converts various audio and video formats

There are more and more applications out there that make use of FFmpeg to convert, play or record in multimedia formats.

It has different tools to do each of these actions. For example, the program FFmpeg is responsible for the conversion between different formats of audio and video. There are also other tools like FFplay (to play) or FFserver (a streaming media server).

FFmpeg supports AVI, MPEG, OGG, Matroska, ASF, Theora, DivX, MPEG4, AC3, DV, FLAC, MP3, Real Audio, Vorbis or Windows Media Audio formats, among others.

If you are interested in making a multimedia application or simply want to handle multimedia files from the command line, then FFmpeg is one of the most recommended tools out there.

How to install ffmpeg on Ubuntu 16.04?
