Download Gedit 3.4.1 for Ubuntu

The ultimate text editor for GNOME

Gedit is the text editor that comes included on the GNOME desktop. As such, it is offered as a free and open source program.

This text editing application stands out, above all, for its simplicity and ease of use. Like Notepad, its counterpart in Windows, Gedit does not add much in the form of decoration to its meager interface.

This is not to suggest, however, that the program offers no more functionality than allowing writing and saving text files.

Without going too deeply into it, Gedit is a powerful programming tool that supports text highlighting for a number of programming languages like PHP, Javascript, HTML, C, Java or Python.

The program also provides some support for writing code, such as a line indicator, auto indentation, adjustable margins, line highlighting and color themes for text.
